Fashion Fridays: 9 Looks That Slay While Being “Corporate”

March 17, 2018

Hey Fashionistas!  Welcome to the Late Edition of Fashion Friday (I had a Girl’s Night Out last night so . . .)!  I attended the 13th Annual Black Enterprise Women of Power Summit last week and it was #blackgirlmagic.  I attended for the first time last year and vowed to return annually, so here’s to keeping promises to myself (A special thank you to my boss at The Home Depot for supporting my quest for personal and professional development)!  Not only was my mind and soul fed but my inner fashionista was LEAPING FOR JOY!!!!

Let me start by disclosing the fact that I started packing at 8am and my flight departed at 11:55am (I typically wait until the last-minute to pack but I have officially reached a new level that I care not to sustain).  The pressure is always on when you are a self-proclaimed fashionista (I don’t want to disappoint my loyal crew that looks to me for inspiration.  I am not quite sure how that happened but I am so very thankful to those that do)!  Let me share my looks:

Day 1: Traveling Clothes + Gala

Traveling Clothes

I opted for a vibrant flowy dress with my favorite mixed-media slim-fit (i.e. I ordered a size that was way too small so I cannot zip it up AT ALL but it looks FLY nonetheless) leather jacket, wedge heels (uncomfortable shoes are NOT an option!) and a necklace that I purchased a few years ago and never had the chance to wear (this is why I enjoy shopping my closet, I have options that the world has yet to see just for a time such as this).  It was the perfect look to go directly from the plane to the first session!

Dress: Bar III from Macy’s (Pre-Owned; similar, I have this one too!)

Jacket: Banana Republic (Similar)

Necklace: Stella & Dot (Resale New in Box)

Belt: Marciano (Similar)

Shoes: Michael Kors (Similar)

Once the day sessions were complete, I did my best to get camera ready (Unfortunately, I did my worst when it came to capturing the look) for the gala in my vintage dress (remix, I wore this for my birthday but I love it so much that I broke my remix rule and wore it).  This is the one outfit that allows me to carry a chip on my shoulder and to be rewarded for it.

Dress: Vera Wang (Vintage-Thrifted)

Shoes: Schutz Natally

Day 2: Conference Slay Part 1

What does one wear when you want to make an impression, be fashionable and be in business attire?  Three key components: Bold Color, a Mixed Prints and a Cape!

Day 3: Conference Slay Part 2 + Night at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Conference Slay Part 2

I lucked up on a sleeveless striped jumpsuit at the end of the 2017 summer season and this was the perfect opportunity to pull this out of my closet.  It was the perfect outfit to wear (well except for when nature calls, jumpsuits are so irritating during those times but worth the extra effort) to be comfortable and stylish!

Jumpsuit: Anthropologie (Alternative Style)

Leather Jacket: Michael Kors-Thrifted (Pre-Owned)

Gold Statement Necklace: Banana Republic (Pre-Owned)

Arm Candy: Custom Made (Similar Styles)

Night at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

During the conference we had a special evening at Animal Kingdom.  To me + my girlfriends (Great minds think alike!) this translated to a trip to Wakanda so I had to wear my favorite African Print Top and my favorite distressed jeans!  My girlfriend Noelle had an AMAZING tribal necklace (I have no clue why I didn’t buy one when I went to Kenya!  LESSON LEARNED) so I took a few selfies wearing it over a my favorite basic tee!

Day 4: Brunch + Girl’s Night Out

The weather was incredible this day so this flowy maxi was the PERFECT complement to what eventually turned into a sunny day!  I received SO MANY compliments!

Girls Night Out

We headed to Disney Springs to checkout the shops and decided to watch A Wrinkle in Time.  I opted for a casual look with a pop of color.  I normally wear a camisole under this top but I didn’t pack one so the show must go on!

Top: Anthropologie (Alternative Style 1, Alternative Style 2, Alternative Style 3)

Jeans: Bebe (Similar)

Sandals: Sam Edelman Griffen Gladiator Sandal

Day 5: Travel Day

Why not end it all with another jumpsuit that I found at the end of 2017 summer season!  I don’t usually buy purple so I was excited to add this to my collection (I prefer to wear this with a white tee or arm tights but the woes of last minute packing worked against me)!
